John W. Ripley papers, 1917-1990.

Notes, lists, correspondence, and miscellaneous material used by John W. Ripley in preparing articles for a variety of periodicals and for presentations regarding the history of song slides during the first two decades of the 20th century. Also in the song slide portion of the collection are lists of Ripley's extensive lantern slide collection, probably the largest of its kind. There is a significant amount of material on the Reverend Charles Sheldon of Topeka Kan., who wrote the best selling novel In his steps. This includes material focusing of Sheldon's edition of the Topeka daily capital, March 1900, which was an experiment in journalism. Also included in the collection are information on the history of transportation & communications in Shawnee County, Kan., including specific companies; Ripley's reminiscence I remember it well; and information on the Washburn (347th) Ambulance Company in World War I.
